kc is a prototype Kotlin-to-JVM compiler written in Go, released by Bart Eousdagh (barteo) under Apache 2.0. On the GitHub project's benchmarks against kotlinc 2.4.21 on an Apple M2 with a warm JVM, it compiles three real libraries 10–16x faster and passes 95% of kotlinc's box tests.
Why it ranked
No. 14 of 59 with a score of 0.62. The panel rated it highest on new information (0.94) and substantiated (0.88), lowest on audience breadth (0.50). Placed No. 14, No. 22 by score alone: the placement terms moved other stories past it.
- AI judgeJudge 2claude-haiku-5-5
- Strong benchmarked prototype compiler for Kotlin with transparent methodology and caveats, but a prototype with many omitted features and checks; new, relevant to JVM builders, claims largely backed by measurements.
- AI judgeJudge 3gpt-5.6-luna
- A technically detailed prototype with reproducible benchmarks, conformance data, design notes, limitations, and build instructions. It is highly relevant to Kotlin and compiler engineers, though early-stage and narrower than a production tool.
