GBench: DeepMind open-sources evaluation suite with 86 benchmark suites

3 judges. Scored by all three judges. Only the day’s top stories get the claim check. How far stories are checked

Google DeepMind has open-sourced gBench, a benchmarking suite for open large language and vision-language models. It measures serving performance on the user's own hardware and capability through three tiers: 86 academic eval suites, 16 deterministic Golden Set smoke tests, and an agentic quality suite.

Read the original at github.com. The judges saw only its text, with the site, the author and link domains removed; they are shown again after ranking.

Why it ranked

No. 17 of 59 with a score of 0.64. The panel rated it highest on new information (0.93) and technical depth (0.83), lowest on audience breadth (0.57). The judges disagreed most on reader interest (spread 0.45), so the story is marked contested. Placed No. 17, No. 16 by score alone: the fifth AI & machine learning story of the day (−0.040). The placement terms move stories; they are not part of the score.

AI judgeJudge 2claude-haiku-5-5
Open-source release of an LLM benchmarking suite from a major lab; practically useful to model builders and evaluators, but niche in audience and largely a README-style release with limited independent evidence.
AI judgeJudge 3gpt-5.6-luna
A technically detailed open-source release for benchmarking LLM/VLM serving, capability, and agentic quality across 86 suites. It is highly actionable for AI infrastructure teams, though broad field significance is limited by its specialized scope.

Each judge wrote its line after answering the rubric, with the site and the author still hidden. Every answer behind this is in the table under Score.
