Huntsman is a new open-source, self-hosted web scraper, released under Apache-2.0, that converts web pages into clean Markdown for LLMs and search. It renders JavaScript via Lightpanda, strips ads and cookie banners, and offers a Firecrawl-compatible /v1 API from a single Go binary.

Read the original at github.com. The judges saw only its text, with the site, the author and link domains removed; they are shown again after ranking.

Why it ranked

No. 52 of 59 with a score of 0.56. The panel rated it highest on new information (0.92) and technical depth (0.77), lowest on significance (0.39). The judges disagreed most on substantiated (spread 0.46), so the story is marked contested. Placed No. 52, where the score alone would also have put it: the 20th AI & machine learning story of the day (−0.080). The placement terms move stories; they are not part of the score.

A self-hosted scraper release with a benchmark against Firecrawl; practical for builders feeding LLMs, benchmark claims self-run and single-trial, moderate significance and novelty.}

A technically detailed self-hosted scraper release with API compatibility, security defaults, deployment guidance, tests, and reproducible benchmark methodology. It is useful to AI and developer-tool builders, though its broader significance is limited by being one project.

Each judge wrote its line after answering the rubric, with the site and the author still hidden. Every answer behind this is in the table under Score.
