QwenPU, released by Divyansh Agrawal, compiles a 32-bit RISC-V CPU and a vector unit into the weights of Qwen3.5-4B, so that Karpathy's 260K-parameter stories model runs as a program inside the model's forward passes and produces the same output as plain C.
Why it ranked
No. 38 of 43 with a score of 0.57. The panel rated it highest on new information (0.93) and technical depth (0.92), lowest on practical relevance (0.45). The judges disagreed most on practical relevance (spread 0.45), so the story is marked contested. Placed No. 38, No. 35 by score alone: the 24th AI & machine learning story of the day (−0.080). The placement terms move stories; they are not part of the score.
- AI judgeJudge 2claude-haiku-5-5
- Novel, technically deep work embedding a RISC-V CPU and vector unit in LLM weights with checks, but a work-in-progress with limited practical use and narrow audience.
- AI judgeJudge 3gpt-5.6-luna
- A technically detailed, reproducible project embeds an exact RISC-V/vector computer and another neural network inside LLM weights, with architecture, benchmarks, checks, and quickstart. It is novel and relevant, though currently large and experimental.
