A GitHub project called tinywmcraft, by Maharishiva, trains a 14M-parameter world model that learns 2D Minecraft (Craftax-Classic) from pixels and actions alone, then generates playable frames one action at a time with no game engine. It runs on one A100 in under 10 minutes for about $0.10 of compute.
Why it ranked
No. 95 of 107 with a score of 0.56. The panel rated it highest on new information (0.93) and substantiated (0.80), lowest on significance (0.47). Placed No. 95, No. 93 by score alone: the 42nd AI & machine learning story of the day (−0.080). The placement terms move stories; they are not part of the score.
- AI judgeJudge 2claude-haiku-5-5
- A small open world model of Craftax with a benchmark and agent-driven autoresearch loop; technically detailed and novel, but a niche, playful demo with modest broad significance and promotional framing.
- AI judgeJudge 3gpt-5.6-luna
- A reproducible, unusually detailed AI project combines a small playable world model, benchmark, training code, autoresearch loop, and concrete compute costs. It is early-stage and niche, but highly actionable and technically substantive for ML and agent builders.
