Steamac is an open-source project that runs Valve's official ARM64 SteamOS image in a lightweight virtual machine on macOS 15 and later on Apple Silicon, using Apple's Hypervisor.framework through libkrun. Graphics go from the guest's Vulkan stack via Venus to MoltenVK or the experimental KosmicKrisp driver, then to Metal.

Why it ranked

No. 93 of 137 with a score of 0.59. The panel rated it highest on technical depth (0.95) and new information (0.93), lowest on audience breadth (0.35). Placed No. 93, No. 88 by score alone: the 14th Programming & dev tools story of the day (−0.080). The placement terms move stories; they are not part of the score.

AI judgeJudge 2claude-haiku-5-5
Detailed, technically rich project documentation for running SteamOS in a macOS VM via Venus/MoltenVK; niche but substantive, with an unclear release-level significance and no prior coverage in the list.
AI judgeJudge 3gpt-5.6-luna
A highly detailed, reproducible Apple Silicon virtualization project covering graphics translation, VM integration, input, networking, suspend/resume, packaging, and testing. It is technically substantial and actionable, though mainly relevant to Mac gaming and its broad significance is limited.

Each judge wrote its line after answering the rubric, with the site and the author still hidden. Every answer behind this is in the table under Score.
