OpenVDDK is an open-source, Apache 2.0 library written from scratch as a drop-in replacement for VMware's libvixDiskLib.so.8.0.3, the disk library used by VMware backup and migration tools. Its author, the OpenVDDK project, says it uses only public documentation and black-box testing.
