A two-person research lab released Pyramid-JiT, a 2B-parameter pixel-space text-to-image model with Apache 2.0 weights, saying its full training run cost about $21K on 64 H100s. The architecture compresses images with 32×32 patches instead of relying on a separate VAE, cutting attention context fourfold.

Read the original at linum.ai. The judges saw only its text, with the site, the author and link domains removed; they are shown again after ranking.

Why it ranked

No. 85 of 139 with a score of 0.60. The panel rated it highest on new information (0.93) and technical depth (0.91), lowest on audience breadth (0.53). Placed No. 85, No. 78 by score alone: the 37th AI & machine learning story of the day (−0.080). The placement terms move stories; they are not part of the score.

Detailed, cost-transparent technical writeup of a from-scratch pixel-space diffusion model with open weights; strong technical depth and novelty, but limited to a small model and self-reported results, so moderate significance.
AI judgeJudge 3gpt-5.6-luna
A detailed primary engineering release describes a 2B text-to-image model, architecture, training regime, compute cost, post-training, limitations, and reproducible settings. It is highly relevant to generative-model builders, though broader impact remains emerging.

Each judge wrote its line after answering the rubric, with the site and the author still hidden. Every answer behind this is in the table under Score.
