FastVM is an open-source, single-host sandbox runtime built in Go on Firecracker/KVM that boots micro-VMs in about 100 ms, pauses and pages their memory to disk when idle, and wakes them when a network packet arrives.
Why it ranked
No. 19 of 51 with a score of 0.57. The panel rated it highest on new information (0.95) and technical depth (0.88), lowest on audience breadth (0.42). The judges disagreed most on substantiated (spread 0.42), so the story is marked contested. Placed No. 19, No. 39 by score alone: the placement terms moved other stories past it.
- AI judgeJudge 2claude-haiku-5-5
- A substantive, technically detailed v0.1 release of a Firecracker-based micro-VM runtime with real e2e tests, but early-stage and single-host with several features unwired, so moderate significance and breadth.
- AI judgeJudge 3gpt-5.6-luna
- A technically detailed v0.1 microVM sandbox project with reproducible commands, architecture, lifecycle behavior, networking, limitations, and end-to-end test evidence. It is highly relevant to infrastructure builders, though currently single-host and early-stage.
